NEW Room – Science 131A: We have moved our meeting location from Science 127 to Science 131A. To repeat we will be meeting in Science 131A from now on. Science 131A is next door to Science 127.
Slideshows
Another slideshow from Tom and Mueiel. This one was from France. We have now seen vacation photos from ‘New England in the Fall’, followed by a show from Russia, and today France. I encourage others to bring their pictures in for us all to see.
Slideshow Software
The slideshows we have seen the last two months used special software to create the shows, PhotoDex, http://www.photodex.com. The basic program is $69.00 and a more advanced application is out of our price range.
Google+
I have always liked the software that Google distributes, especially PICASA, http://www.picasa.com. Now Google has a new application called Google+. This is Googles answer to Facebook and Twitter. Yes it’s a social platform and much more. Since I have just started using Google+ I’m not going to try and explain all that is Google+.

Printing pages from the current Orange Bytes: It’s easy to print an entire Web page from a browser but what if you want only a small portion of that Web page. Remember a Web page, when printed, can take up many, many printed pages. Not all Web browsers work the same so I will give a general method for printing only portions of a Web page.
1. Go to the Print Menu and select ‘Print Preview.’ Scroll the entire document and locate the pages you want to print. Write them down somewhere.
2. Go to the Print menu and select ‘Print.’
3. In the Print box there will be a place where you can select the page or pages you want to print.
4. Once you input the page numbers you can print.
Because this is so general and the big three browsers have different methods but get to the same place I will put up a separate post at the Beginner’s Digital Photography SIG Blog. It should be up within two weeks. Look for it.
Getting the correct White Balance for a space with multiple light sources: One of the members was having problems taking photos inside a clubhouse. They were coming out slightly pink. She was having problems with the White Balance. This usually happens when there are two or more light sources. The answer is to create a ‘Preset’ White Balance. In short you take a photo that the camera uses to adjust the colors for the correct White Balance. If your camera has the option of setting the White Balance then it will probably enable you to create your own custom ‘Preset’ White Balance. In short will you need to read your camera manual for instructions.
I’m going to write up a post on the power of RAW images and White Balance and will include a section on creating a ‘Preset’ White Balance. Look for it at the SIG’s BLog.
Online Picture Editors
There are now photo editors that work with your Internet Browser. The few we looked at today were run with Google’s Chrome browser. It shouldn’t be too difficult to test them with other Internet browsers.
1. ribbit, www.ribbet.com. No sign-up required. Free.
2. Picasa. Stand-alone app for photo organization. Has it’s own built-in photo editor. Requires a gmail account. Free
3. Google+. Google’s answer to a social media. Has it’s own built-in photo editor. Free.
4. If you use Google’s Chrome web browser then there have many photo editor apps than you can install into Chrome. Explore the Chrome app store. Do a search for ‘Photo Editor’ and be amazed.
Keep bringing in your questions. It really is the fun part of being a SIG Leader – answering question.
